Coincidence or Act of God

One of the most commonly used words when things work in people’s favour is coincidence. Two or more acts that combines to deliver the goods! Coincidence does not however mean something good happened; it could be the occurrence of bad, but the sequence of event that makes us really belief that life is full of coincidence whether good or bad.

Learning to speak in acceptable ways and terms is one of the reasons people use such word coincidence very often and I was one of those who find it more compelling, in vogue or neutral to use the word coincidence rather than attribute everything to God or favour. It just sit down well to use certain words amidst different class of people but over time I have come to realise how the quest for social acceptance make us lose sight of God and our humanity. Just like an illustration someone gave to me of recent which depicted how easily we wish God’s favour away in order to appear learned, schooled or even acceptable in some social circle.
According to the narrative of my friend, two ladies wake up on a morning without money for transport to their places of endeavour. One prayed and trusted God for provision, then stepped out of the house and got a free ride to and fro her place of endeavour. While the other believed through experience or her beauty that she would meet someone to give her a free ride from home to her destination and back. She also did get her wish and thus it becomes absolutely difficult to separate God from coincidence. One returns praising God for the favour and the other just believe it was her beauty or luck that earned her such favour. The neutrals, the academics etc. would find it more compelling and convincing to believe that those two acts were just acts of coincidence as it is possible that neither got their miracle or wish for the day. I was once in the class of the neutral, the academics, those who basically see things from the logic side of life. However with time, I began to see those favours, coincidences shrink and it made more sense in that such miracles were just accidents. However, God never found it funny. He does not share His glory with any man and He cannot tolerate it when He is not adequately honoured and glorified for both the great and little things He does just to make life comfortable for us. I began to find it hard getting things done out of favour. It still made logic as I believed hard work was rewarding if only one can persist. However those things I merited began to pass me by and It never dawn on me until of recent that even atheists believe that  no matter how hardworking one is there are times in life where and when one need some slice of luck to make head way in life. According to Woody Allen, in the film, Match Point, ‘I would rather be lucky than good’. This is because according to the film there are times in a Lawn tennis game where the different between a champion and a loser is just one moment when the ball goes up and the ball descends slowly, spectator and players stand in what seems like eternity, expecting that the match ball drops at the other end of the net. In that split second that seems like eternity, even the ardent and hardest of atheists pray to a supernatural power or being for things to work in their favour.  It is a break or make moment when one is not in control but one moment that alter the course of one’s life and when the ball falls on the other side as expected, success unquantifiable happens. The world fails to noticed the prayer and the champion can easily attribute his/her victory to hard work with no reference to God or or even luck to put it mildly. A little twist of fate makes life worth it and the one that twist such favour in ones direction whether one believe or not is God. As I give God the glory from those things we normally deem normal or what many regard as coincidence I have continue to see more of those miracles in abundance. They are no longer coincidence or those sparing moments that can be wished away as luck but I have seen God multiply those miracles, and through them I have become increasingly aware of the God that daily load me with benefit; providing for all that I need, lacking nothing. See God in the little and He would magnify Himself in your life
Shalom

The Beautiful Ones are not Yet Born

History is a reminder of feats and exploits of the past. Date and time might sometimes have significant value but what is often crucial is the feat(s) achieved and when such feat is repeated or surpassed another history is written.   The writer of the book of Hebrew simply called those historical feats recorded in the previous chapters (11) as cloud of witnesses (12:1). Those clouds of witnesses are there to remind and urge us on that we can repeat similar feats and even surpass them. The writer summed it up in the last verse that we can do better and those who have gone ahead of us are waiting and urging us to surpass those feats. They will be ridiculed if we cannot surpass them. They would be incomplete if we shrink in comparison to their achievements.  History does not limit us in any form and does not want us to shrink at all from such exploit. All history is about is for us to leverage on those feats and stand on the shoulders of those heroes to see further. History be...
