Born in a Christian home, raised as one, committed at one
point yet I have come to really disagree with some tenets of Christianity, especially
the way it is practised in the Nigerian context.
One I have problem with 'one has to be a Christian or
Muslim'. Why can’t I be neutral is a big worry for me. It is more like saying I
must be either member of PDP or APC. It is more like indoctrination into a
brotherhood with no room for personal experience. Yeah salvation is a personal
experience but I must be member of a fraternity before my faith becomes
acceptable or validated. My testimony must have language recognised and
acceptable within the brotherhood.
We don’t live in this generation: we only live in the Shadow
of Paul, David, Daniel etc.; men who lived in their time for God, their own
lives. They made their own mistakes and yet pleased God. When I have a
situation the first thing is to attack it from the Abraham, isaac, Jacob
perspective with no due consideration for uniqueness of me and my situation.
The situation of Paul differs from Daniel's as they both had different social
cultural environment to contend with. People often forget that Daniel was a
philosopher and here in our days we pitch Christianity against knowledge. To
ask question is to challenge God and to seek knowledge is to go the way of the
world. Christianity is now best practised by just having blind faith without
questioning. Even Abraham Questioned and doubted God. I have refused to associate
with people who never accept that they have the capacity to doubt God as if
they have never been in situation that made them doubt God. Some even totally
forget that the bible is not a chronological account of people's life neither
is it a biography nor an autobiography but an highlight of people life as it
relate to the author’s perception of God at that point in time. The bible was
inspired by God but written by mortal men who had their sentiments, limited
view about socio-cultural construct so the bible is never a perfect piece.
Inspired by God but not written by God, so it is subject to human
interpretation. I have my faith, I have my faults and I have my doubts because
I am still human
