Devaluation of Leadership in the Church and in the Society

One of the biggest problems of Nigeria is religion. Religion has helped devalued human capital and leadership. Coming from my constituency I can say boldly that over 90% of our local churches operate at a mediocre level. Leadership in the church is about using mediocre and incompetent people to rule over the good and competent people.

And the bible verse often used to carry out this heinous act is, ‘God uses the weak things of the world to confound the wise’, and true to those words it is the intention of the church to always suppress it best while elevating the most stupid. I wonder if those words were not in existences when God chose highly learned Paul and Barnabas to preach the gospel at global level. Even the narrow minded and culturally bound Barnabas had limited reach with the gospel as he continually return to his base in Malta to which Paul found limiting. The gospel is a global product that cannot thrive on mediocrity or be culturally restrictive. The need to be locally responsive should not reduce the church to a bunch that celebrate stupidity; unequipped and unexposed leadership. I guess the church forgets so easily the words of Daniel that ‘the people that know their God shall do exploit and those that have understanding shall lead many’. That is why the church does not know what leadership stand for. The people just become too simple and believe that leadership can be bestowed on anybody. It is simply casting pearl to the swine. That is why the church is as guilty as the society on the type and level of leadership on display. That is why the society continues to churn out mediocre as leaders and the church spiritually concludes that it is the act of God. Is God then a mediocre?  God allow the leaders we want to rule us. It is the level of understanding of a society that determines the type of leaders they want and God will consent because He does not always interfere in the affairs of men. He has given man dominion to rule over other things and humanity as well. Don’t drag God into mediocrity. He is not a mediocre; every society is ruled at the level of their sophistication or mediocrity

The Beautiful Ones are not Yet Born

History is a reminder of feats and exploits of the past. Date and time might sometimes have significant value but what is often crucial is the feat(s) achieved and when such feat is repeated or surpassed another history is written.   The writer of the book of Hebrew simply called those historical feats recorded in the previous chapters (11) as cloud of witnesses (12:1). Those clouds of witnesses are there to remind and urge us on that we can repeat similar feats and even surpass them. The writer summed it up in the last verse that we can do better and those who have gone ahead of us are waiting and urging us to surpass those feats. They will be ridiculed if we cannot surpass them. They would be incomplete if we shrink in comparison to their achievements.  History does not limit us in any form and does not want us to shrink at all from such exploit. All history is about is for us to leverage on those feats and stand on the shoulders of those heroes to see further. History be...
