Even
animal kingdoms are governed by rules. In climes where human being live and
where rules and regulations are meant to be obeyed; where rulers and people in
governance are governed by moral conscience and instruments of law are used
only to seek justice in extreme case, the IG of police would not declare the
office of the speaker of NASS vacant.
In climes where men live like men and not
like animals, the IG cannot make such statement without being morally hanged
before being fired by his boss but we know he speaks the mind of his boss from
where no wisdom flows. We do not expect morality to guide our society if it is
only a matter of conscience. In normal climes the IG has no such power and it
does not even rest within his jurisdiction to make such statement. If he had
made such statement in error, he would have apologised and I bet his job would
be on the line. But imagine an overzealous man who is ready to keep his job and
a man guided only by moral conscience. The overzealous man has his master to
please but who would protect him in the days of trouble if he decides to put up
a moral front. A society that has no moral soul-expecting its citizens to
always show morality by being heroic is only ready to lose all its good men
without even the desire to change for good. The IG was only desecrating the
moral soul of the nation which has been raped and desecrated by previous men of
power but the raped now believe that her temple must be consistently violated,
raped or desecrated when such action has become a norm to the people. A people
who are hungry have no choice except to dance to the piper who leaves a few
crumbs of bread for them after such orgy. We live in a country
where the value we place on people is not more than the amount we buy Ileya ram
or buy Christmas chicken. Nigeria where is your soul! Nigerians where is your
soul!
In
a country where people break rank because they have connection with the
presidency, even common locusts move about in hierarchy not breaking ranks. Had
the Eagles qualified for Nation’s cup, it would have been another campaign
slogan and the president would have been praised for ingenuity and
transformation agenda in football, but alas we did not qualify and such voices
were naturally silenced. Whether we qualified for Nations cup or not, the
presidency’s intervention to restore Keshi after his sack was an aberration on
leadership. In this clime we do not understand what leadership is all about and
it was simply desecrated by the highest office in the land. Whether Keshi was
sacked hastily or in error is not the issue but his pay master deemed he was
doing a bad job and felt he needed to be replaced, but the presidency decides
to soil it hand in such matter well below him shows the desperation to retain
power and the insecurity in people we entrust power with. The NFF is a terrible
employer but Keshi has turned to monster employee. The problem of Nigeria
football as it is with other sector lies at the doorstep of leadership but what
moral lesson could be passed to a group of players who were told their coach
had been sacked only to the informed that the presidency had restored him. When
those players are aware that the coach is only there because of his connection
and not on competence or current form, thus the message to the players is that
you need to know who is who to play for Nigeria. Then we come to demand that
those lads whose sole aim is to escape poverty should exhibit patriotism. The
labour of heroes past is really being drained down the sewer where pearls are
cast to the pigs and men of honour are made to beg for bread. Keshi is simply a
school boy who has failed but should be allowed to repeat his class!
In
normal human climes where one of the major responsibility (Security) of the
presidency has not been well carried out, the incumbent has no moral right
(even when he has the legal right to do so) to seek re-election. The slogan
from the camp that celebrates failure and mediocrity is that if a child fails
he is allowed to repeat a class. The show of shame did not even make those
people deny such colossus of failure but because we reside in clime where
people’s mind have been rendered savage and depraved by hunger such logic could
even fly. Is Nigeria now a project that an immature/amateur needs to mess up
with and we permit someone who has shown crass incompetence to take our
national life on another journey of experimental class? Let us assume that the
key sponsors of boko Haram, insurgence and all the incessant bombing are
handiwork of APC members. If the apparatus of the state used to molest
opposition has not been used to prove beyond reasonable doubt or even prosecute
someone to get justice and serve as deterrent to others, then all claims made
as regards this in media is just mere political propaganda. The same thing goes
for those who want to retaliate and attribute everything to PDP so that APC can
look like mister nice guy.
Let
also assume on the other hand that those sponsoring Boko haram or causing
insurgence are indeed the enemies of the president and those who want to mock
him; his ambitions and achievements. If the Service chiefs, head of DSS, IGP
etc. have not been able to help the president nail his enemy but are just good
at scurrying for cheap publicity and propaganda, they simply do not know their
job and thus they should be fired. Their attempt to score cheap publicity for
the president is just to cover their ineptitude but due to wisdom and knowledge
gap, the presidency does not even know. If those causing all the mayhems are
bunch of neutral people and yet the government has not been able to nail them,
then we have nothing but a weak government. If the presidency with the power
vested in him plus that of incumbency, the Nigerian Armed forces and other
resources at his disposal have not been able to gain a higher proportion of
victory over insurgence, then how are we supposed to trust him with the same
tactics and personnel for another four, thus the need for change of personnel
so as to allow for change of tactics. In
our community, these issues are addressed and discussed based on religious or
ethnic alliance. Pastor Ayo Oritshejafor opined that Boko Haram's evil acts were
calculated attempt to wipe out Christian in the North- Religion, while the
impeached Governor of Adamawa state in the letter that gagged his political
ambition opined that the soldiers sent to the North were there with the agenda
to wipe out the Northerners-Ethnicity. President GEJ said the people of S/West
Nigeria have been marginalised by his government because the position of the
speaker of NASS was rightly reserved for the zone. He even confessed to be
suffering as a result of that. Another ethnic card! Those are the kind of discusses (religion and
ethnicity) we understand in Nigeria and it is so easy for the many religiously
gullible people to go to the poll come February 2015 to vote along that
sentiment while some gullible Northerners will also go to the poll with bile of
Nyako’s letter at the back of their mind.
Pastor Oritshejafor has a clan to protect while Nyako also has. It is
easy to get Nyako impeached for the sake of politics, the same way it is easy
for many to advise government to charge Rotimi Ameachi for treasonable felony
for mentioning civil disobedience but nothing was seen wrong with Pastor Ayo
Oritshejafor’s statement. The crime of Boko Haram against any citizen of
Nigeria, no matter where they come from is a crime against humanity. Amnesty international
has come to really criticise our soldiers for failing in their fight against
insurgence and instead harassing, killing and maiming innocent citizens-crime
against humanity. That is what it is and people who would readily receive the
applaud of Western organisations but reject any criticism that comes from such
organisations are quick to point that USA also commits crime against humanity
but by one factor or the other those people missed and will miss the news when the
same Amnesty international was and will continually be on the neck of USA for committing
crime against humanity. We live in a world where it is so difficult for some to
understand that there can be neutral bodies who do not dance to the tune of
governments. It is almost hara-kiri in our society. You must either be PDP or
APC to survive. When the real reason why we want to choose a candidate, a
leader or a person for position is not clear to the citizens, the rule of law
advocated by the vote of majority is simply a curse.
